PETER Grant has set his sights on returning to action in Cherries' Avon Insurance Combination clash against his former club Norwich City.

Player-coach Grant has been sidelined since tearing a calf muscle in his right leg just 10 minutes into Cherries' 1-0 defeat by Notts County at Dean Court seven days ago.

The 35-year-old midfielder picked up the injury as he attempted to hook the ball forward and sustained a deep tear after falling awkwardly on his toes.

Initially, Grant feared he could be out for around six weeks, but the Scotsman is now hopeful he will be fit to line up against the Canaries at Carrow Road next week.

Grant, who made 75 appearances for Norwich after joining the club from Celtic in 1997, said today: "The calf feels much better and playing against Norwich is the target.

"I have been reasonably lucky with injuries during my career and this is the first time I have ever torn a calf muscle so it is all new to me.

"When I first got the injury I thought it was just a bit of cramp, but after the referee told me I would have to leave the pitch, I couldn't put my foot down.

"I couldn't walk after the game either, but the swelling cleared up quicker than anticipated and if things keep progressing like they are at the moment, I should be okay."

Grant could be joined at Carrow Road by striker Chukki Eribenne who suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury during Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Stoke.

Eribenne is due to have a scan on his ankle this week, although the 19-year-old is not as seriously injured as was first feared by club medical staff.

Cherries boss Sean O'Driscoll will run the rule over triallists Chris Tardif, Brian Rainey, Templar Lyuka Lokake and Ben Thomson in tomorrow's Avon Insurance Combination showdown with Bristol Rovers at Dean Court (2pm kick-off).

Justin Keeler could also feature for Cherries, although he is expected to return to Dorch-ester for a third and final month on loan later this week.
