VETERANS from all over the country will be heading to Swanage this summer to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
The seaside resort is hosting the Royal British Legion's county-wide commemorations which organisers hope will include a visit from the Red Arrows.
The centrepiece of a weekend of events will be a spectacular Edinburgh Castle-style military tattoo featuring more than 500 performers.
RBL county vice-chairman Joe Clark is seeking sponsors to help make the event a success.
He said: "Everything will be for the veterans. This is the last time these old guys will possibly see an event like this.
"It is going to be impressive - something that has never been seen in Swanage before."
Freefall parachute team the Red Devils will start off the military tattoo on July 9, flying into the stadium to display a Royal British Legion flag.
Pipe bands in full Highland dress will take to the stage during the three-hour tattoo at Swanage football stadium.
On Sunday, July 10, veterans will take part in a parade through town and thanksgiving service with sponsorship money used to make it a special day for them.
Organisers need to raise some £30,000 to stage the commemorations. It will be an entirely non-profit event with any surplus being donated to RBL charities. Tickets for the tattoo, priced £15, will go on sale in April.
Anyone wishing to help can make a donation to the Royal British Legion, 150 High Street, Swanage, Dorset, BH19 2PA.
