MITSUBISHI is preparing to chop the roof off its Colt to create a new coupe-cabriolet.
Based on the Colt five-door platform rather than the shorter Colt three-door for packaging purposes, the sporty two plus two convertible takes its design cues from the 2003 CZ2 Cabriolet concept and will be jointly developed with Pininfarina and be built in Turin, Italy from early 2006.
Compact (3,89 m) and well planted on its long wheelbase, wide tracks and 18ins wheels, it offers a purposeful chunky look, matching the performance of its proposed 150bhp 1.5 litre MIVEC turbo-charged engine.
One of the major differences from the CZ2 Cabriolet concept is that, in line with current buyer trends, it will use a folding hard-top in preference to the more traditional soft top chosen for the original show car.
The first in-metal version will receive its world debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show.
