UNRULY gangs of youths drinking alcohol and urinating in a historic building in Blandford have sparked angry complaints.
Town councillors are being urged to take action following a spate of problems at the Grade II listed Old Bath House in Church Walk.
Residents claim youths regularly cause late-night disturbances by removing stones from the pillar and other parts of an adjoining wall to gain access to the stone shelter which was the entrance to the original bath house.
District councillor and chairman of the Blandford Local Action Group, Andrew Pemberton, said: "Gangs of up to ten youths are drinking and smoking in there and using the place as a public lavatory. They've also daubed graffiti on the walls and sometimes climb up onto the roof."
Cllr Pemberton, who was due to raise the issue at the town council last night, said it was also important that police kept an eye on the situation. It is believed the town council is trying to establish who owns the building.
Chairman of Blandford Civic Society, John Barnes, added: "We have been concerned about this structure for some time. It's a great pity it's being ruined as it's of historical importance. We always point it out on our guided walks of the town.
"To say pull it down would be a great shame but something does need to be done."
Inspector Tim Lumley, of Blandford Police, said: "We will continue to patrol the town centre and focus on areas where members of the public have concerns."
