GARRETH O'Connor scooped the Micky Cave Daily Echo Player of the Year award and then dedicated it to his girlfriend's late grandfather.
The Cherries midfielder has been a vital component of Sean O'Driscoll's side as they have taken the quest for a play-off berth to the final day of the season and was voted as clear winner by Echo readers.
But O'Connor has paid tribute to his girlfriend Vicky's grandfather Stanley Dean - an AFC Bournemouth fanatic - who passed away on Christmas Eve.
O'Connor told the Daily Echo: "Stanley was always more pleased than I was when I managed to score - it was great going to see him after I'd had a good game. He was a really nice man who loved the club and is sorely missed.
"He would have been delighted to know that I have been voted as player of the year and I'd like to dedicate it to his memory."
He added: "I was delighted to hear I'd won and I'd like to thank the supporters for voting for me and my team-mates and staff at the club. It is a real honour to get the player of the year award."
The former Bohemians man, who took 56 per cent of the vote, has been in devastating form all season scoring a terrific 14 goals from midfield.
Warren Cummings was second with 15 per cent, Neil Moss third (14 per cent) and other players accounted for 15 per cent.
The unassuming Dubliner said: "I think Warren Cummings would have run me close if he'd still been playing. He has been excellent this season until he got injured - so maybe I picked up a few extra votes that way."
He added: "I think it is my best season as a professional footballer and it would be great to cap that by going up through the play-offs.
"I think I have been that bit more focused this year. I am 26 now have felt fitter all year and maybe a bit more mature as a player. Everything has just clicked into gear for me but I still believe I can improve and do better."
O'Connor, who declared himself fit for the May 7 make-or-break clash with Hartlepool, succeeds last year's winner James Hayter.
