GARY Emerson returned home a happy man following an Italian job well done in Milan on May 8.
The Broadstone touring professional moved up to 77th on the European Tour's Order of Merit after staking a share of 25th place in the Telecom Italian Open.
Emerson picked up a cheque for £8,343 following rounds of 71, 70, 70 and 72 for a 283 five-under-par total.
"Things didn't quite go my way, but I'm delighted with my form," said Emerson. "The windy conditions weren't ideal for good scoring early on, so I was pleased with my 72."
Emerson, who carded two birdies and no dropped shots on the back nine, finished 13 shots behind fellow Englishman Steve Webster who collected the £146,377 first prize.
Ten years on from beating Tiger Woods and becoming top amateur at the Open, Webster finally lifted his first European Tour title.
At his 247th attempt and after five second place and 27 top-10 finishes, Webster kept his nerve to win by three strokes from Yorkshire's Richard Finch, Welshman Bradley Dredge and Dane Anders Hansen.
