TWO towering musical talents - bluesman Dave Kelly and singer Christine Collister - join forces for a must-see concert at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne on Saturday night (May 14).
The gig is part of a brief tour which finds them performing in a classic version of the The Dave Kelly Band, which also boasts the talents of one-time Dire Straits drummer Pick Withers, former East of Eden/Climax Blues Band keyboard player Peter Filleul, The Blues Band's bass player Gary Fletcher and one-time Jo-Ann Kelly/John Dummer Blues Band lead guitarist Peter Emery.
It is the first time Kelly and Collister have worked together for more than 10 years, giving audiences a chance to witness a genuine "dream team" in action.
Both have impressive musical pedigrees. Kelly, of course, is a founder member of The Blues Band, a stalwart of the British Blues Scene, who cut his teeth in the backing bands of Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker as well as playing with Buddy Guy, Son House & Muddy Waters.
Collister, meanwhile, originally came to prominence on the UK folk scene in the Eighties and found a national audience singing the title song for the BBC drama series Life & Loves Of A She Devil.
She then joined the Richard Thompson Band as vocalist and acoustic guitarist, before a long-term musical partnership with Clive Gregson. She now performs solo or with her own trio.
The current tour came about when a fan sent Dave a copy of a recording a session he and Christine did back in 1994 for The Paul Jones Radio Two show. Dave thought it sounded great and forwarded a copy to Christine. They decided to get together again for a series of gigs.
The material for the new tour is drawn from both their musical backgrounds, but mainly covering songs which they both love but have not previously had an opportunity to perform.
