PIRATES star Antonio Lindback has admitted he is still 'only' aiming for a top 10 finish in the World Championship Grand Prix despite labelling his first round display as "unbelievable."
The Rio Rocket astonished the speedway world when he reached the final of the European GP in Wroclaw two weeks ago in only his second GP appearance.
And the then teenager might even have been victorious after leading the final before being relegated to fourth by winner Tony Rickardsson, runner-up Leigh Adams and reigning champion Jason Crump.
Lindback, who lines up in the second round at Eskilstuna in the Swedish GP tonight (6pm), admitted he was not getting carried away with his performance in Poland.
He said: "It was unbelievable I got into the final and I almost couldn't understand it myself. It really was an unbelievable night.
"It was great that everything worked out well for me. My gating was good and we found a really good set up with the bike.
"But I am not about to change my initial target in the GP this year because you are up against the best riders in the world and they are all good.
"I can only try my best and, hopefully, I can finish in the top 10 like I said I wanted to do before the start of the season.
"If I manage to do that, I will be happy."
Lindback, who has only just turned 20 on May 5, added: "I didn't expect to do so well in Poland.
"In the end, though, I was a little bit angry with myself that I was back in fourth in the final after getting out of the gate so well.
"That's why I pulled up and didn't finish the race."
Lindback had got the jump on Rickardsson off gate four and led going into the first corner.
The five-times world champion, however, clinically nudged the Poole RIAS rider wide out into the dirt and stormed into first place before Adams and then Crump, on the last lap and out near the safety fence, brushed Lindback aside as well.
"Tony was going so well that night," said Lindback. "He didn't want to let me beat him and Leigh was the same.
"Jason is the reigning world champion and he wanted to get his share of the points as well.
"He was maybe a bit too rough, but that is speedway."
Lindback stressed the main point he felt he had learnt from Wroclaw was that he needed to concentrate more on his own performance.
He said: "I tend to look too much at the other riders in the race when I need to focus on myself.
"It is very easy to look across the tapes and think about Tony Rickardsson, Leigh Adams and Jason Crump when they are lining up beside you.
"That just makes your job harder so I need to focus on my own race all of the time."
Looking ahead to tonight's meeting, Lindback said: "It should be a great meeting because at the moment the track has a lot better material on it than in Poland.
"I hope they can keep it like that because I like circuits like that as it was slick at Wroclaw."
Lindback takes 16 points into tonight's meeting and lines up in the event alongside two other Pirates.
They are Ryan Sullivan, who has seven points, and Bjarne Pedersen who has four.
Tonight's wild card is Norwegian Rune Holta. Swedish duo Mikael Max and Peter Nahlin are track reserves.
