PILGRIMS on their way to a Christian shrine received a cash boost thanks to the efforts of a band of local actors.
Before they set off from Weymouth to go to Lourdes in south west France, members of the Wessex Association for the Sick and Handicapped (WASH) charity, volunteer helpers and their special group of 'VIPs' were presented with a cheque for £500 from the Acting Caledonians.
WASH organises trips to Lourdes for the sick and disabled and transports them in specially-adapted coaches known as Jumbulances. The Acting Caledonians, which is connected to the South Dorset Caledonian Society, raises money for good causes through its shows.
Secretary Sheila Lawrence said WASH was one of three charities which received £500 from the group this year.
The Acting Caledonians will perform two plays and a variety show on July 7 and 8 at the United Reformed Church Hall in Spa Road, Weymouth.
