Three out of three for Bridport
DORSET SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION SIX
BRIDPORT 242-5 (20) beat WAYFARERS II 111 (5) by 131 runs
BRIDPORT outclassed Wayfarers to record their third win on the bounce in the Dorset Sunday League.
In a team effort the home side hit 242-5, Chris Backhouse top scoring with an unbeaten 75, and then skittled their opposition for 111.
John Brown and Dave Backhouse both claiming three wickets after a tight spell from Terry Field had put Wayfarers under pressure.
After the match Chris Backhouse was extremely pleased with the way his players applied themselves with bat and ball on a tricky surface.
He said: "It was a massive score.
"I would have been quite happy with 180 on that track but to get 240 was just a bonus.
"Matt Sherring in his first knock looked good and I'm really pleased for Jack Frith.
"He got his first score of the season and has now been picked in the district squad.
"After tea we found it hard at times because Wayfarers seemed to shut up shop.
"All the bowlers were good especially the two openers.
"I couldn't have asked anything more of them."
The home side started well with Rob Atkins (44) and Frith (40) building a solid 69-run opening partnership.
Frith played some powerful shots until he was trapped leg before and when Richard Runyard followed him back to the pavilion soon after Bridport were faltering.
Fortunately Matt Sherring produced a solid 31in his first innings of the season to steady the ship and allow Chris Backhouse to play his shots.
Along with his father Dave Backhouse (28 not out), the skipper added a further 95 runs to put Bridport in a very strong position.
That advantage was increased as opening bowlers Field (1-17) and Brown (3-38)made early in roads while conceding very few runs.
Dave Backhouse (3-25) continued the good work when Brown finished his spell and picked up three further wickets including the only visiting batsman to pose any threat, Anjun Nagpal (65).
