LYME Regis Traders Organisation is on a mission to make the most of the town.

A group of local shopkeepers and restaurateurs have been discussing ways to improve the resort for local people, visitors and traders.

Their latest plan is to come up with a new comprehensive guide to Lyme Regis that is informative and easy to use.

The guide will be available from shops and will provide lists of all the traders in Lyme, Uplyme and Charmouth with added information about what each shop stocks.

Rikey Austin, of the Bear Shop, who is chairman of the organisation, said: "We hope that the guide is going to improve people's stay by providing them with details of where toilets, banks and the doctors are as well as showing them the wide variation of shops that we have to offer."

The guide is not only aimed at visitors to the town, and Rikey hopes that local people will benefit too.

"The guide will also be helpful to local people because not all of the businesses are well known," she said.

The organisation has been running for a number of months and members feel that they have been successful.

Rikey added: "We have helped to improve schemes such as the park and ride in the town and have had input on the work on the seafront.

"Geoff Davis, West Dorset's senior engineering geologist, came to our meeting and we discussed how the work was affecting the trade in the town. He listened and acted on our suggestions.

"We are a recognised organisation that has been included and informed and we want to make the most of the town.

"The association is wonderful because we all pull together as a team. It is easy to just worry about your own business and money worries but we are thinking of the town and the community."

The group is also discussing an incentive scheme to improve the park and ride that includes stickers and possible discounts for users. The service will be operating until 10pm throughout the bank holiday weekend.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 24, at 6pm at LymeNet and traders from Lyme, Uplyme and Charmouth are encouraged to go along with any suggestions they may have.
