SUPER Susie Hignett has set her sights on representing Great Britain in Lithuania over 3,000 metres in this summer's European Under-20 Junior Championships.
The talented Bournemouth Athletic Club track star just dipped in under the qualifying time of 9mins 30secs competing for the GB junior team in Sunday's Loughborough International track and field meeting.
The Ringwood runner, spending her gap year in the Army at Abingdon, clocked 9:29.95 to become the first GB Under-20 contender this season to reach the qualifying mark for Kaunus in July.
Susie finished fourth against tough, experienced opponents at Loughborough but could be satisfied with her performance in blustery, wet conditions.
Earlier this month she clocked a personal best of 9:26.98 in a mixed race at Millfield.
September will see Susie starting a degree in Exercise & Sports Science at Bath University.
Springheeled Jody Chappell turned in a succession of impressive performances for Bournemouth Athletic Club at Ashford in Kent on Sunday.
Chappell finished third in the long jump with a 6.52 metre leap of his life and threatened his personal best in the triple jump with 11.73, after clocking 12.1 seconds over 100 metres on the introduction to the A-string sprints.
That was nothing, however, to the workload that faced thrower Dan Brunsden, BAC' top points-scorer in this National Junior League Men's Southern Premier Division fixture.
He found himself running literally from one end of the arena to the other, then changing his shoes, because his two best events, javelin and shot, were inconveniently scheduled at the same time.
Mike Hammacott impressed with a 1500m time of 4:21.6, but Bournemouth's strength lies in the field events where Andy Brown notched a discus personal best of 31.93m.
Matt Calver reached the English Schools U17 qualifying mark in triple jump with 13.14 while Kim Johnson's 10.18 shot was extremely encouraging in his first Junior League meeting.
Wimborne AC javelin thrower Aaron Harris, representing Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, threw 51.73 - just behind runner-up Brown with 53.25.
Match result: Shaftesbury BH 301pts, Enfield & Haringey 280, Blackheath & Bromley 268, Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow 248, Harrow 237, Bournemouth 180, Belgrave 167, Havering 139.
