EIGHTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD golfer Margaret Boxwell is celebrating after hitting her second hole-in-one.

Mrs Boxwell made the shot at Bridport's seventh hole, a par three 124-yard hole on to a green 90 feet below the cliff top.

She made her first hole-in-one at Came Down golf club in Dorchester 15 years ago.

Mrs Boxwell, of Abbots Walk, Cerne Abbas, was competing in the Bridport Open when she hit her second.

But today she confessed: "My eyesight isn't very good so I didn't actually see it go in. Four other players saw it and there was a great cheer, and everyone was waving their hands in the air."

She added: "It was horrid weather, but I allowed for the wind and luckily it came off."

Mrs Boxwell took up golf at the Came Down club after she retired from teaching at Sherborne Girls' School 20 years ago.

Fellow club member Christine Brittain praised Mrs Boxwell: "The shot was even more amazing because it was in windy conditions on a very difficult hole."

Mrs Brittain says Mrs Boxwell is an inspiration to the 150 women, aged between 14 and 88, at Came Down.

"She added: "She is a phenomenon."

Mrs Boxwell said: "I intend to carry on playing. At times I feel a bit weary but I tell myself to 'Come on!' and I keep going."

Came Down club celebrated a second hole in one from another member, Ann Talbot.

Mrs Talbot of Elwell Manor Gardens, Weymouth, hit her first hole-in-one at the 12th hole at Came Down playing with her son, Gary.

Mrs Talbot, 59, said: "A hole-in-one is something we would all like to do and it feels amazing."

She added: "Mrs Boxwell is absolutely incredible - she is so keen and enthusiastic and she never gives up."
