EQUIPMENT and fencing has been removed from the Lodmoor Park children’s play area.
Only the metal swings remain.
The fencing has been removed, because it is no longer safe or repairable, as it has nails dangerously sticking out in many places and also a number of finger entrapments.
At the end of last year, the borough council advised the Friends of Lodmoor Park that the Log World in Lodmoor play area would be removed this year.
It was hoped to leave the equipment there as long as possible, but, being over twenty years old, the items were at the end of their useable life.
Now it is realised that the safety surfacing beneath the equipment is no longer repairable.
It is not clear at this stage if funding will be available to replace this equipment.
Most of the fencing has now been taken down, but, as the play area swings are for toddlers under supervision the safety officer has advised that it is not necessary for the fencing to remain.
The Friends of Lodmoor Country Park are concerned and are keen for a full range of facilities to be provided for all age groups in the park.
They plan to plant bulbs in the park this month and will link this with a "spring clean".
The next open meeting is now provisionally set for Thursday, April 25.
CONGRATULATIONS to Radipole resident, Anne White who gained the Best Actress award in the first round of the All England Theatre Festival.
She participated in Weymouth Drama Club’s submission of plays performed at the Shaftesbury Theatre, playing a formidable and hilariously funny character in Alan Bennet’s play entitled Say Something Happened.
