SMASHED bottles and cans were found all over a children’s playpark.
Families visiting the play area in Radipole Park in Weymouth were greeted by broken glass on the swings and slide and shattered glass on the grass.
Tracey Clark, 32, from Brownlow Street, Weymouth, went with her nephew Josh Ivens, four, and her mother Sandra Ivens.
They said more than 100 cans and bottles were left there.
Mrs Clark said: “There’s no need as there’s bins right next to the park. It’s a children’s playpark so it’s very irresponsible and dangerous.
“I’m sure whoever it was just didn’t think about the kids being here in the morning.” But Mrs Ivens, from Preston, believes the glass was left there on purpose.
She said: “Luckily we had somebody saying to us when we went in ‘don’t let him run ahead because there’s glass’.
“They had deliberately put glass on everything.
“You could see it was deliberate because it was placed on every single thing.”
Mrs Ivens said parents were clearing up the mess but fears if it happens again children may arrive before any adults have seen the danger.
She said her grandson Josh was visiting from Poole and had been promised a trip to the park.
She added: “It’s just a total disregard for the usage of it. It’s meant for children.
“Josh has been there before but we told him there were too many broken bottles. He was so upset.”
She added: “It’s obviously older kids. You do wonder where these youngsters are getting alcohol from. If it was adults they wouldn’t be in a park.
“I think the park should be closed until it’s cleaned.”
A Weymouth and Portland Borough Council spokesman said: “The council always aims to take a proactive approach to problems with littering in order to keep parks and streets clean.
“Radipole Park is patrolled daily by a member of staff.
“Unfortunately there may be occasions where visitors encounter a problem with litter before the warden arrives.”
“Residents who encounter problems with litter should contact the council on 01305 838000.”
