Recent weather was the cause of some debate at the January Bradford Peverell Parish Council meeting.

With the recent snow and ice the Council is considering the purchase of extra salt and grit bins for the village.

The County Council will now only supply official bins and will no longer place piles of grit on verges.

The weather is also the cause of traffic problems in the village when the A 37 floods under the railway bridge at Ash Hill. Hopefully the recent river bed clearance will lessen this problem.

A road strategy should be in place by March and this includes the fact that only similar grade roads should be used for diversions - in this case A roads only.

Heavy rain also causes worry in the village from the levels of the River Frome and a floodwarden should be appointed but the warden cannot be anyone from a threatened property. An advert is to be placed in the Chalkstream magazine.

The Parish Plan is going ahead and a bid for funding is ready to be submitted. The Council need only find 5% of the cost which in this case is £170.

There was discussion over the future of the traditional-type BT phonebox which is opposite the Village Hall and views are sought over its future and this will also appear in the Parish Plan.

Under Village Maintenance Cllr Neil Howard reported that he was aware of the few potholes in village roads but patching in poor weather is not very effective so hopefully these holes will be dealt with later.

The new drains in Church Lane have coped well with recent rains although there has been some flooding near Muckleford crossroads.

Various payments were authorised and the next meeting is on Thursday March 4th.
