SOCIAL events are very much to the fore at the Southill Community Centre based Short Mat Bowls Club.
Festive attire was worn by those attending the very enjoyable Christmas Fun Evening, with some outfits displaying a high degree of creativity.
Novelty bowls games were played and a deceptively easy quiz was followed by a buffet and raffle.
An excellent lunch was also enjoyed by members at Cygnets Restaurant and the forthcoming coach trip to the Exeter Ice Show is eagerly anticipated.
On the more competitive level, the winter season is under way and the two Southill teams, the Mariners and the Sea Dogs meet in the fiercely contested Local Derby.
There is a set of games planned against teams such as Crossways, Wool and Maiden Newton.
The annual internal bowls competition will soon take place to determine this year’s cub champion, who is currently Roger Dalkins.
The club has some excellent bowlers, but everyone has a sporting chance in the pairs and triples contests.
Prospective new members, including beginners, are welcome to come along and find out more at the Monday and Wednesday afternoon sessions held at Southill Community Centre, 2pm-5pm.
