- JAZZ and Swing fans listen up!
On Saturday, June 13, at 7:30pm Dorchester Choral Society is teaming up with the Briantspuddle Singers to deliver a first class concert.
It carries the title “Music with Jazz and a Swing for a Summer Evening” and takes place in Charlton Down Village Hall (DT2 9UV).
The programme includes but is not limited to Opera Highlights, Cole Porter and American Folk Songs.
Directed by Richard Hall and Christine Page Katherine Sayles features as Soprano.
She sang to open Six Nations Rugby at Twickenham and the Carling Cup Final at Wembley and together with the choirs an excellent performance all round is virtually guraranteed!
Secure your tickets as soon as possible by either contacting Harmony Music in Dorchester, the village Londis Shop in Charlton Down or possibly at the door on the evening itself.
They cost £ 12 and are bound to sell out so act quickly.

Cerne Abbas
- CERNE Abbas First School: The school would like to thank everyone for their contribution to this year’s Mayfair, which, after a rainy start, went on to be very successful.
Over £ 1,300 were raised for the school.
- CHURCH Fete: The school has been asked to run a stall at the village fete which takes place on Saturday, July 4.
Following the huge success of the “Fruit Tombola” with exotic fruit and fruit basket prizes it is going to happen again!
So if you do come to the fete – and I hope you will, it’s a hugely entertaining event – be sure to visit this particular stall!
- POST Office: In need of Euros?
Cerne Abbas Post Office will in future stock them, no need to order in advance!
- NEWCOMERS to the village: All residents who have moved to Cerne Abbas since May 2008 should have received and invitation to this year’s Newcomer’s Drinks Party.
It will take place on Friday, June 12.

- BELL ringing: A team from Christchurch Priory will ring at St. Mary’s Church on Saturday, June 13 at 2:15pm.
- YOUTH Club: The recent Fashion Show was a great success, raising a total of £ 650 for the club’s funds.
The models and their escorts had only been practising for a few weeks but put together a fabulous show, enhanced even more by the “Cerne Abba” cast!
Many thanks to everyone who contributed, least of all the audience!

- CLEAN up your act!
The annual village clean-up will take place on Friday, June 12.
There will be two litter picks: One at 2pm where everyone will meet at the school and the children will take part in.
The other one will commence at 7pm and everyone is asked to meet at the bus shelter in Long Street.
Please do come along, everyone who has ever collected rubbish will know how much can be gathered and all available help is needed.
Gloves and bags will be provided.
- 94 GROUP: A meeting is planned for Thursday, June 11 when Peter Gostelow will be talking about his recent cycle marathon ride.
This ride took him from Japan across 30 countries and should make for a fascinating evening.
Non-members are most welcome to attend, against the payment of a small fee.
The meeting will take place in the village hall and commence at 7:30pm.
An outing to Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens is also planned for Wednesday, July 8.
Please mention at the meeting on June 11 if you are interested in coming to this outing as well.
Buckland Newton
- OFF the Peg: This aptly named fashion show, organised by the Lydden Ladies and Friends of Buckland Newton School was attended by over 100 ladies!
£ 632 was able to be donated to Buckland Newton School, proving once more that fashion shows are really one of the most popular events around!
