A climber suffered serious injuries after falling 40 feet on to rocks in the Purbecks.
The accident happened at an area known as the Cattle Troughs on the coast near Swanage.
Because the mobile phone signal is weak in the area a woman who was passing at the top of the cliffs had to run to the emergency phone at Anvil Point to call the Coastguard.
The injured man, who is believed to have suffered multiple fractures, was airlifted by the Portland Coastguard helicopter to Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester for treatment.
