Abbotsbury and Langton Herring

  • ABBOTSBURY Art Week began with a private view of the work of local artist Margaret Sones and Lucy Best from Bournemouth in the Artemesia Gallery in West Street, Abbotsbury.

Look for the topiary outside.

Margaret’s luscious fruits and contemporary local scenes drew many comments of admiration.

Lucy Best’s contemporary and colourful textile art works of felt and gold leaf,Bizarre Bazarre, were astonishing in their intricacy.

The Artemesia Gallery also holds pieces of Murano Glass and jewellery.

If you are in the village do pop in you will be warmly welcomed by Emily,Holly and Rob.

  • LORD and Lady Neuburgher will be opening their lovely Abbotsbury garden to the public on Saturday, June 6 from 11.00am – 3.00pm in aid of The Friends of St Nicholas Church.

Situated in Church Street just before the great tithe barn, The Old Gatehouse has views up to St Catherine’s chapel and down the valley to the sea.

The Friends will be serving refreshments and there will be a raffle.

This will be a rare occasion to view a private village garden.

  • TWINKLING St Catherine’s Candles could be seen from miles around and were a sight to behold.

A perfect still, dry, clear and warm evening on Saturday, May 23 meant that the thousand lanterns stayed alight for many hours.

The chapel was floodlit from dusk to midnight, which added to the special atmosphere.

This year sheep were still grazing on Chapel Hill and a pastoral scene greeted the many visitors as they climbed the hill for the service in the chapel.

St Catherine's Chapel has been de-consecrated for many years and takes on faith of those who visit it.

The ecumenical service for May 23 took the theme of St John.

The Heritage Fayre team who organise this annual event were very relieved to awake to a dry morning on Sunday, in past years it has always deluged for the clearing up.
