- THE POPULAR choristers of Collegium Regale once again drew a huge audience to All Saints Church, Wyke at a concert recently staged there. The main sponsor of this event was Jane Cotton of Cotton and Son, Funeral Directors and her support was greatly appreciated.
Many members of this year’s audience have attended all three of the choir’s previous concerts and were eager to hear them again. Many more for whom this was their first time have said how wonderful the evening was and that they will be back again for next year‘s concert.
The event raised approximately £2,200. This money will be divided equally to help cover the cost of repair to the church roof at All Saints’ and the cost of updating the electrics at St Edmund’s.
Thank you everyone who helped make this event possible and everyone who came. Members of the choir say that Wyke Regis is their favourite venue because the audience is always so responsive.
- JOHN AND Karen Pearce of Alfs Fish and Chip shop, Fiveways, have just had their busiest week since they came to Weymouth. On Saturday, May 23, volunteers staged a tabletop sale outside the shop and raised over £150 for the Joseph Weld Hospice, an admirable total to which John and Karen added 10% of their takings that lunchtime.
A few days later the energetic duo got up very early to make up lots of free packed lunches for a group of very sick children who were off out for the day on Wednesday, May 27, with their families. Fleetline Taxis, who organised the outing, donated the ice creams provided by the Pearces on the group’s return.
Members of a local bereavement group were among the first to enjoy the new season’s outings for local community groups, organised by John and Karen in association with Weymouth travel firm, Bluebird Coaches. They were blessed with a lovely day on Tuesday, May 26, and stopped off to enjoy the beach on the way back.
Unfortunately another group who were taken out on the following day to see Rhododendron Mile didn‘t fare so well with the weather.
However, these trips are always greatly appreciated, even in the rain, and are only possible because of the generosity of local individuals and businesses so here’s a big thank you to all concerned.
