- IF YOU were out and about in Preston one fine evening recently you will have seen the 200 entrants in the Egdon Easy 10k (just over 6 miles in old money) running by at their best pace, and congratulations to all those who took part.
The water station, as for every one of these events over the years, was outside my house, and was in constant use by all except the very fastest runners, who stop for nothing.
Helping to man the station were Jeanne Orme, wife of the President of Egdon Heath Harriers, the club that organises the event, Roger Sturge, a long time member but now retired runner, myself and, for those that know, Grandson George.
Daughter Sian and friend Ann were running in their first ever race, and received a special cheer on passing by.
- FOR THE first time in a year I have been walking up on the cliffs to the east of Bowleaze Cove, and I was horrified to see how much erosion has taken place in that time.
The falls have taken away yards of the path, with more to come. The fresh earth can be seen clearly as you drive along the Preston beach wall towards Overcombe.
- THE ST ANDREW'S School PTA Summer Fete will be held on Saturday, 4 July between 1pm and 4pm.
As it's 4th July there will be an American theme and lots of fun for all the family with fire engine and mini steam train rides, panning for gold, dancing and gymnastic displays, hot dogs, cakes, candy floss, beer tent, tombola, American themed fancy dress competition, Boston tea party refreshments, ice creams, tin can alley, decorate a doughnut, plants, crafts, jewellery and lots more.
Tickets for the grand raffle are just 50p for a top prize of £100 and lots of other great prizes. Adults pay 50p entry, with accompanied children free and free parking!
All proceeds go to help create a reflection/quiet garden for the children, and everyone is welcome to attend.
- THE SUTTON Poyntz Society evening walk will start from the Saxon Arms, Stratton at 6.30pm on Wednesday, 17 June.
The walk will be about 4 miles long, and post walk refreshments can be ordered from the pub before setting off.
This is lovely walking country, with few hills of note, so do go along if you fancy an evening of good views and good company.
