COMEDIAN Jay McGee has decided to change his stage show into a disappearing act.
He has vowed to lose 10 stone from his 26-stone weight with the Healthy Living Wessex group.
Jay, from Weymouth, said: “I want to lose as much as possible, 10 stone ideally.
“But the problem is that Slimfast milkshakes taste so good with chips.
“I was 26 stone and not getting any younger.
“I went to my doctor to speak to him about it and I was referred to the experts.”
Jay, who performs at south Dorset holiday parks shows, may have to change his act if he succeeds as many of his gags are at his own expense.
One of his jokes refers to the ‘problem with caravans’ being that he has to ‘grease the sides and take a run up at the shower to get in’.
Jay said: “I’m losing weight slowly but steadily and am putting a lot of work in.
“I am exercising regularly to achieve my goal.
“It’s all going well and, alongside my programme, I’ve joined WeightWatchers.”
Jay decided to change his life after reaching 26 stone. He went to see his doctor, who sent him to Healthy Living Wessex.
One of the inspirations for Jay was George Forder, 73, a retired prison officer who was featured in the Dorset Echo recently after losing weight.
Staff at Healthy Living Wessex said they have had 50 per cent more calls and requests lately.
They can construct personal programmes for people who want to become more healthy or lose weight.
Experts draw up diet recommendations, exercise advice, general support and hold weekly mentoring sessions.
People who are overweight can be referred to the scheme by their doctors.
