- THE ANNUAL plant sale at the Scutt hall attracted a large crowd of keen gardeners not only searching for additions to their gardens but for some sound advice as well.
There were plenty of both on offer, as well as the chance to meet old friends over a cup of tea and a choice of delicious home made cakes from Pat and Anthea in the kitchen.
Outside was the now traditional stall manned by Paul and Des raising money for the Okhle Village project, to help Nepalese villagers obtain such necessities as clean running water.
Closer to home, Julia’s House was the beneficiary of collection at the door being made by John Bellis - I’ll let you know how much was raised.
- THE FIRST Sutton Poyntz Society walk of the year will be on Monday, 1 June starting at 10am from the parking area 200 metres below the Hardy monument on the Martinstown road. This area is quite small, so car sharing would be a good idea. The walk is about 6 miles long, and you should take a packed lunch.
I was walking there recently amid beautiful bluebells, so the walkers are in for a real treat.
- LINDSEY Maton is on her way to raising the £4,600 she needs to support her university gap year, which she intends to devote to teaching deprived children in India.
Her mum Ali sings in the Encore choir, a 30 strong group that give concerts for charity, and she has persuaded them to help Lindsey by performing an evening of songs from the shows and other popular music on Saturday 20th June 2009 at 7.30pm in Wey Valley School.
In the interval when there will be a raffle and refreshments for sale, including, says Lindsey, lovely homemade cakes.
Tickets cost £6 for adults, £3.50 for children and can be obtained by ringing 816255 or at the door on the night.
- AT THEIR last meeting the Sutton Poyntz Village WI supported a resolution to ask the government to assist with research funding into the causes of the decline in the honey bee population, which is threatening world wide agriculture.
On a lighter note, they enjoyed a quiz and cream tea, and the flower of the month competition was won by Anne Kemp’s iris.
The next meeting will be on Thursday, 3 June at 2.15pm in the Mission Hall, when visitors are most welcome.
