I would like to comment on the recent astonishing ‘improvements’ to Chafeys Roundabout, Weymouth.

I frequently drive through, and occasionally walk across this exceedingly dangerous intersection.

Anyone walking from Southill into town must brave it.

My wife is actively discouraged from walking for this very reason.

While the work was proceeding, there was a welcome drop in traffic speed on all lanes there.

Naively, I had hoped that this was the intention!

Now it is finished the traffic is faster than ever. The work was intended apparently only to provide cycle tracks. Anyone actually riding a bicycle near this roundabout has to be suicidal. I have seldom if ever seen such a person. However, any such are now encouraged to cycle across the traffic lanes!

One despairs that vast public monies can be wasted on such hair-brained schemes.
