The OLD School Village Hall has some beautiful new curtains! Floor length, or almost, they’re a soft green which enhances the creamy walls and beige floor, and most certainly they will make a much-needed difference to the acoustics. We’re very pleased with them, the gift of the Upwey Society, and lots of nice remarks have been heard.
There’s been a lot of renovation and refurbishment in the last few years.
The hall is looking good, the facilities, especially for arts and crafts, are excellent and it’s well-equipped. To hire the Hall, call Fil Cooke on 812665.
- IT’S THE ‘not-the-Dorset-art-week’ show for the next two weeks at the Old School when the Upwey Potters mount their display of ceramics and demonstrate their skills – many and varied.
There are workshops also where you can have a try yourselves at moulding the clay, using the wheel, admiring your finished product. Raku work is particularly appealing and something many people like to have a go at – fix up a time when you’re there, the process takes about three hours from painting a pot to completing the firing.
The Show is open from 10.00am to 6.00pm for two weeks from Saturday, 23 May to Sunday, June 7 and entry is free.
- THE WELL DRESSING is still looking good, take refreshment at the cafe when visiting the pottery show, and enjoy the lovely water gardens. Then you can buy some very nice vegetable plants to take home for your own garden.
Please take care with parking – the road is very narrow in places and the church car park is by far the best place to leave your car.
- SOUTH Dorset Ridgeway Project is under way, with opportunities for people to take walks along this spectacular part of our area. There are some leaflets at the Old School describing the walks and what you may see along the way. For those who prefer guided walks you can find information at www.dorsetaonb.org.uk.
- ST.NICHOLAS and St. Laurence School is holding its Summer Fete and table top sale at the school on Saturday, June 13 from 1.00 to 3.00pm. Anyone who would like to promote their business or craft or has anything they would like to sell, can hire a table for £10. Reserve yout table in advance calling Jo Corben on 815968.
There will be all the usual activities to enjoy – bouncy castle, facepainting, BBQ, donkey rides, trampolines and all the other things that go to make the day fun.
- MANY THANKS to all those people who turned up to the St. Laurence Church Spring Fair – a grand total of £775 can be added to funds.
