A GAS leak caused chaos in Weymouth town centre.
Fears of an explosion prompted emergency services to throw up a 200m cordon around the Jubilee retail park.
It followed reports of a leaking acetylene cylinder at Kwik-Fit at around 3.20pm.
The exclusion zone encompassed the town bridge, Commercial Road, the bus and train stations, and the retail park.
It was reported the cylinder had toppled over and possibly ruptured. Houses along Commercial Road were also been evacuated, but the cordon was lifted just before 5.30pm when the cylinder was found to contain just oxygen.
