THE ORGANISER of a charity concert at Dorchester Town Football Club is promising a feast of family entertainment.
Steve Charles has lined up top acts including Bay City Rollers star Eric Faulkner for this Saturday’s concert and he is hoping it proves such a success it becomes a regular fixture in the town’s entertainment calendar. A stage is currently being erected on the pitch at the Jewson Stadium and the venue will be able to hold up to 1,500 people on the day.
As well as providing a day of musical fun, the concert will also be raising funds for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust and the West Dorset Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Mr Charles said: “There is obviously a lot of interest and we think we will pick up a lot of people on the day.
“People can just turn up and bring their own food and drink as a picnic if they want.
“There will also be a beer tent and food bar serving hot food all day. We now are praying for good weather.”
As well as Mr Faulkner belting out a selection of Rollers’ hits including Shang-A-Lang and Bye Bye Baby, a host of other bands will be performing at the concert, which starts at 3pm.
First up will be Ferndown school band Colt 45, followed by three-piece party band Who’s Afeard.
Local favourites Jigsaw will also be entertaining the crowds, along with glam rock band Party Animals and 3 Daft Monkeys, who performed at Glastonbury last year.
Mr Charles said: “There’s something for everyone so hopefully everybody can just come and enjoy the music and it should be a good family day out. This is something original in Dorchester and we want to make this first one a success so it can become an annual event.”
Mr Charles also voiced his gratitude to Dorchester Town’s chairman Eddie Mitchell for allowing him to use the Jewson Stadium.
n Tickets, £15 for adults and £10 for children and OAPs, will be available on the day and are being sold at Harmony Music in the Forum Centre, Trinity Street.
