DORCHESTER’S police chief has vowed to purge the town of drug dealers.
And he has urged the public to join forces with the police in a bid to clean up the streets of the town.
Inspector Les Fry spoke out after three people were arrested when police carried out two drug warrants in the town following tip-offs from members of the public.
Dorset Police said officers from Dorchester’s Safer Neighbourhood Team and patrol officers have carried out two Misuse of Drugs Act Warrants in the county town during the last month.
After receiving information from members of the public the officers exercised the warrants, first at an address in Castle Close and then, last week, in Wollaston Road.
Police said that a quantity of class A drugs was found during both searches and the substances seized were currently being analysed.
Two men, aged 41 and 42, and a 25-year-old woman from the Dorchester area have been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
All three are currently on police bail pending further inquiries.
Inspector Fry said: “This was excellent work by the Safer Neighbourhood team who, working with patrol officers, Magna Housing Association and members of the public are continuing to make a difference to the community.”
A number of prosecutions have been completed in relation to a series of arrests made in Dorchester last summer during a highly successful police crackdown on drug dealing, known as Operation Trench.
Several other people who were arrested during the operation are also currently facing prosecution.
He said: “The cases from last year are still going through the courts but we are not resting on our laurels and we will deal positively and proactively with any new information of people dealing drugs in Dorchester.”
Insp Fry said more arrests could follow and reassured the people of Dorchester that everything possible was being done to make sure local drug dealers are brought to justice.
He said: “Dorchester has a very low level of drugs within the community but we won’t relax with the work we are doing and we will take action wherever appropriate.”
