• Mrs Esme Read is pictured with some of the delightful knitted finger puppets and dolls that she makes and sells in aid of the Weymouth North Scouts, who are raising money for their much-needed new Scout Hut in Radipole Village.

The range of puppets includes a policeman, a nurse, a witch and many, many others, all in the most attractive detail and are on sale in Howell’s Butchers shop or by phone on 767340.

  • Residents attending their Community meeting at St Augustine’s Church Hall considered the traffic calming in Spa Road and at Radipole Bridge.

These had been the subject of a questionnaire following the last meeting.

Traffic Briefholder, Coun Christine James quoted the Chief Driving Examiner, who was not critical of this layout.

In the light of this, Coun James could see no prospect of the County Council carrying out alterations, but she would suggest improving signage for the bridge at her forthcoming meeting with the County Traffic Committee.

A selection of alarms and personal and household security equipment was put on display.

Issues listed for action were the positioning of large stones at Lodmoor Country Park, cyclists who are not complying with the law, disposal of rubbish in black bags and the dropping of litter.

The misuse of mobility scooters has prompted a special initiative and users are to be reminded of their responsibilities during the forthcoming awareness campaign.

The meeting then heard from two local Friends Groups.

Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens Chairman Jim Sinclair spoke of the development of this group since its inception three years ago when the state of the park and gardens was poor.

Great improvements have been brought about, with liaison and co-operation with the council.

He outlined group activities that play a vital part in our local community.

Lodmoor Country Park Friends Group was formed at the end of last year.

Friends' Treasurer, Sheila Goodwin spoke of this group’s achievements.

They had also held litter picks and there had been superb children’s involvement.

A.O.B. included updates on the proposed Dorchester Road pedestrian crossing, which is now expected to be installed in October and the replacement of the dilapidated bus shelter outside Hardy’s Court.

This is also expected to be achieved later this year.

The long awaited relocation of the Weymouth Bay Composting Tip is set for next month. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 at St Augustine’s Church Hall.
