Cerne Valley and beyond
- LITTER – it’s a disgrace!
There have been a few comments recently, amongst others from the Vergin Wombles and the Grot Gatherers about the huge amount of rubbish that can be accumulated these days through the actions of thoughtless individuals.
I can only wholeheartedly embrace their point.
Beer cans, sweet wrappers, plastic bottles,..these are only the minor culprits.
For many weeks now an old mattress has been lying near on of the fields of my lovely home patch in Up Cerne and all around our country lanes old fridges, washing machines, car seats, carpets etc. can be seen.
You name it – it’s there...and will still be in many years to come!!
I agree, the waste disposal regulations are not ideal but isn’t there another way?
Please let’s at least do our bit and take our litter home.
If you want to do more to help take part in litter-picking activities like the one coming up in Cerne Abbas on Friday, June 12 (more on that in the next column) or organise your own litter-picking event.
Help and advice with this can be given by your local council.
Cerne Abbas
- FOOTBALL: The club is going from strength to strength and several events have been held in its support, amongst them an auction on Sunday, May 3 which was a great success.
Another quiz night is also forthcoming, on Sunday May 31, to be held at 8pm in the Giant Inn.
Dave Moyes will be quiz master and everyone is welcome to take part.
Coach Andy Ross is furthermore planning a six-a-side tournament, so if you would like to enter a team, contact him on 01300 341804.
- YOUTH Club: Finances at the Youth Club need to be topped up so look out for several fundraising events in the next few months.
A sponsored car wash is planned, several members of the club are also taking part in other sponsored events, its leader Jackie Baxter is doing a walk climbing Snowdon for example.
From Friday, May 22 to Monday May 25 she and her team will also be tackling three other Welsh peaks and sponsorship is important.
If you feel you can help, contact her on 01300 341892.
Equally, if your child would like to become a member – give her a call or pop round to the next Youth Club session on Friday, May 29 in the Village Hall.
- MOVIOLA: Cerne Abbas Theatre Club, which runs Moviola under a separate account, is pleased to announce that Moviola had an extremely successful season.
It has been decided, together with the Village Hall Committee, to make a donation of £ 1,000 towards a new lectern for the Village Hall.
Whilst the present season has now ended, the forthcoming season’s films will be screened on the following Mondays: 14th September, 12th October and 16th November.
Many thanks to everyone who supports the showings!
- VILLAGE Hall: Does anyone have a set of “tower” scaffolds which could be borrowed from time to time, as the need arises?
The hall is faced with the problem of needing to reach the ceiling in the main area to replace dislodged tiles for example.
Hiring is an of course an option but can be complicated and takes away valuable funds and any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
