  • THERE will be a short communion service to mark Ascension Day at St Mary’s Church, Stratton on Thursday, May 21. The service begins at 7.00am and will be followed by breakfast at 7.30am.Why not call in on your way to work or if you are out walking the dog!   • SARAH Pilcher (local Police Community Support Officer) will be in the Saxon Arms in Stratton between 11.15 and 12.15 on Tuesday, May 26 for a drop-in coffee morning. If you have any issues you would like to raise with Sarah or would simply like to chat with her on an informal basis, do call in during this period.
  • ST MARY’S Wives Group will be having a talk from the Riding for the Disabled charity in Stratton Village Hall on Thursday, May 28. Members are urged to come along and hear more about this very worthwhile cause.
  • STRATTON and District Home and Garden Club has organised a visit to Castle Gardens in Sherborne at 2.30pm on Thursday, June 4. If you are interested in joining this outing, you will need to organise your own transport. Please note that members benefit from substantial discounts.
  • PLEASE come along to a coffee morning at 8 Beechtree Close, Cattistock, on Saturday, May 16 between 10.30am and 12.30pm. There will be a raffle, as well as cakes, plants and bric-a-brac. Any donations will be welcome. All profits will go in support of the church tower.
  • CATTISTOCK Lawn Tennis Club is holding a coffee morning in the Savill Hall at 10.30am on Saturday, May 30. There will be cakes, spring plants, bring & buy, new-to-you clothes, a raffle and refreshments. Everyone is welcome to come along. Cattistock Lawn Tennis Club is one of the few remaining clubs in Dorset to have grass courts. The season begins in April and club sessions will be on Tuesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Courts are available to members and their guests throughout the season.

  • WE WOULD like to remind readers about the Ivy Club Spring Sale, which will take place at 2.30pm on Saturday, May 16 in Maiden Newton Village Hall. As we have so often said, this is an excellent organisation that does a tremendous amount for people in our area, so please come along and give them as much support as you can.
  • MAIDEN Newton at War are holding a Tea Dance at the Ritz on Sunday, May 17 between 3 and 6pm at the village hall. There will be waitress service and 1940’s clothes are optional, although it would be great to have as many people as possible in costume.   • MAIDEN Newton Open Gardens this year will be held on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14. This is the 11th year of the open gardens and this year there will be a widening of horizons. Allotments will be on show for the first time. There will also be cream teas, a raffle and stalls (books, plants, produce) on both afternoons.
