- Wyke Regis Sisterhood are looking forward to celebrating their 86th Anniversary at a service to be held at 2.30pm at Wyke Methodist Church, Portland Road, on Tuesday, May 19.
Anyone from any denomination is very welcome to join members for this.
Tea and cakes will be served afterwards in the hall.
- Second Chance Furniture, a local charity based in Lynch Lane, are delighted to have supplied furniture on 830 occasions over the past year to clients in receipt of a means-tested benefit who have thus been greatly helped by the organisation’s services.
The charity is very grateful for £500 towards their Smooth Moves scheme donated by the tenant representatives group from Weymouth and Portland Housing Ltd.
Two of Second Chance’s regular van drivers, Dave Bevens and Darren Maher, are to be congratulated having recently successfully completed courses for an NVQ level 2 Transport Course qualification under the ‘Train to Gain’ scheme.
This charity always has opportunities for volunteers in various areas of its operation and also welcomes donations of good quality furniture.
Demand for electric and gas cookers, fridge freezers and fridges in particular often exceeds supply. Please note however that washing machines cannot be accepted as they cannot be tested on site.
Appliances must be in good working order.
For further information telephone Howard on 01305 766621.
- If any of you are wondering why something you sent me recently hasn’t been in the column, please bear with me. I plead extenuating circumstances.
First our main computer died and with it any email records that weren’t held as copies in a back-up folder. Then I accidentally permanently deleted all my documents from my lap top. Doh!
Fortunately most had already been backed up on my husband’s new computer but I can’t guarantee all. Then I temporarily lost track of my contacts book.
We’re in the middle of having building work done on the house and the noise and muddle have been somewhat distracting.
However, I hope normal service can now be resumed so please keep your news coming. There’s no column without your input.
