The cash has been counted and donations from sponsors received, - so I am happy to tell you that over £500 was raised on the stalls at the event to launch Dorchester Skatepark.

A big thank you to Hot Wheels of Bournemouth who not only generously provided the event gazebos but also donated the much coveted Mongoose BMX bike as the top Raffle prize.

Matt of Toymaster Dorchester donated a Tony Hawk Skateboard - and then turned up on the day and spent 6 hours selling tickets - business was brisk!

A small group of volunteers were responsible for ensuring everyone had a good time that day - and to part them with a little of their cash - so we owe a debt of thanks to them for keeping on top of everything and making things run smoothly.

Thanks to the Borland Family, particularly 14 year old Molly who took charge of the Tombola for the entire day; Caroline Richards (National Trust) and Gwyneth Brooks with Den Paice from Dorset Community Action who gave up half their weekend.

Just Good Food of Chickerell and Potters (the hog roast) both kindly donated their profits, which exceeded £200.

Steve Newman and Dorchester Town Council played a huge part on the day, making sure all of those organising the event had all we needed and felt supported.

This was topped off by the combination of Mark Noble and Maverick ensuring the DJs, music and skate Jam went without a hitch.

An estimated 2,000 people visited the event and, at its peak, the skatepark had an audience in excess of 800 people.

Thanks to everyone involved - it was most definitely a fantastic team effort!

Kris Hallett (Co-ordinator on the day for the Skatepark Committee), Dorset Community Action, The Barracks, Dorchester.
