SINGER Joss Baker from Dorchester is reaching for the stars with an audition for the X Factor.
She is heading to the 02 Arena in London on Wednesday in her bid to appear on the top rated TV show.
Joss hopes to wow judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue with her rendition of Patsy Cline’s ‘Crazy’.
Joss, aged 53, who lives with husband John in Poundbury, said: “I am excited about going.
“I have watched every series on television so far and have been glued to Britain’s Got Talent.
“I come from quite a big musical family. I was one of 14 children and there was always music in the house.”
Joss said: “I think I have got an ear for music and won’t disgrace myself. I’m singing Patsy Cline’s Crazy.
“Everybody thinks I’m crazy anyway, so it will be quite fitting anyway.”
Joss applied for the auditions and received a letter back inviting her to the auditions.
Her letter told her that it was her ‘only chance to shine’ and that that she should ‘rehearse, dress and peform to impress the judges’.
It is the first time Joss has applied to the X Factor. She said she applied because she had run two marathons, including this year’s Flora London Marathon for the British Heart Foundation, and was getting too old to tackle another.
Carer Joss used to work in marketing for Wessex FM and joked that she has gone from the Wessex Factor to the X Factor.
Joss said her daughter April, 22, a student at university in Brighton, was proud of her. She also hopes to get some singing tips from Margaret Powell, the mother of her friend Sue Cull.
Joss said: “I just want to go up there and have a bit of fun and be part of it.
“I do love the X Factor.
“There are people with fantastic talent, and there are people who will dream of reaching the top.”
She added: “If you don’t take a chance, you will never know.”
