Cerne Abbas

  • BARN Dance: On Saturday, May 16 a barn dance will take place in the Village Hall.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available from Cerne Abbas Stores at £ 7.50 each or £ 20 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children under the age of 16).

The ticket price includes a ploughman’s supper.

A bar will be available and a raffle will take place on the evening as well.

The barn dance will last from 7:30pm – 11pm and all proceeds are to go to The Cerne Valley Young Peoples Trust.

  • MAYFAIR Day: A reminder that Cerne Abbas First School will be holding its annual Mayfair on Saturday, May 16.

This is a major fundraiser for the school’s activities and normally takes place in the afternoon on the playing field opposite the school.

More details will be published nearer the time but if you are in the area be sure to attend – lots of different stalls and games await you!

  • DAY Nursery: Starlight Childcare now offers all year round day nursery facilities for children aged 0 – 5 years in the village hall.

The village hall, also called Herrison Hall, is situated in Sherren Avenue and boasts a historic ballroom as one of its features.

Sydling St. Nicholas

  • ANNUAL Duck Race: Sydling’s Duck race will take place on Sunday, May 10 this year.

If you happen to be in the area, buy yourself a duck on the day or a ticket for the Celebrity Duck Race – 30p per ticket or four for £ 1!

The race will start at 3 pm , all profits will be shared between the Dorchester Stroke Club and a Third World community project run by Practical Action.

SHARP (Sydling Help and Relief Project) are organising a Swishing Party on the evening of Friday, November 13 in the Village Hall.

Admittedly this seems a long way away but it could be a completely new experience for you – make a note in your diary!

Buckland Newton

  • CROCUS Walk: This walk in support of breast cancer research has as ever had huge support and I am pleased to report that the Buckland Newton group raised an excellent £ 818 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, a considerable increase compared to last year.

A big Thank You from organiser Alison Chant to all the team, as well as to The Halsey Arms, and everyone who provided raffle prizes, cakes and support in whatever way, shape or form.
