THE cream of Weymouth’s singers are now through to the final of the Star Sensations singing competition.
Three winners from the second competition heat held in the town are now in the last stage of the contest – being held to find the best singer in Dorset and on the South Coast.
Around 200 people turned out to watch the second and final local heat of the competition, which was held at Weymouth’s Centenary Club.
Judges at the heat, including Dorset Echo editor Toby Granville, said they were very impressed by the quality of the town’s vocalists. The winners were Lauren Medway, Tom Andrews and Stacey Thomas, who went through on the audience’s vote.
Chris Daines of CFK Promotions, the compere, competition organiser and heat judge, said the crowd helped the final Weymouth heat go off with a bang.
He said: “The crowd on the night was fantastic and very responsive.
“Most of them were there to support a friend or family member, but I told them at the beginning of the night that we wanted them to cheer for every singer.
“The audience threw themselves into things as readily as the singers – clapping and cheering on everybody who was on the stage.
“It felt like a real family affair.”
CFK employee and heat judge Darren Burt backed Mr Daines’s praise of the singers and the crowd’s enthusiasm.
He said: “I’m very glad that I’m not judging the competition final.
“I feel for the five judges who will have to make a decision, as every act that has gone through has been outstanding.”
Echo editor Mr Granville said: “It was a fantastic evening and certainly proved that Weymouth’s got a bucketload of talent. “To pick a winner from the outstanding selection of contestants was extremely difficult – and, if I could have, I would have put all eleven through to the final.”
Fellow judge and musical composer Graeme Ennis added: “The quality of the performances on the night amazed me. The singers were all so professional.” For more information on the competition visit www. starsensations.co.uk
