A GREEN-MINDED group in Weymouth and Portland is looking for more support.
With the threat of climate change and a need to rely less on fossil fuels, the Transition Town movement has sprung up, challenging communities to act.
A steering group has been established to progress the aims of the Weymouth and Portland Transition Town group.
These include organising events exploring the issues, producing a website, networking with environmental organisations, schools and businesses, and adopting an ‘energy descent plan.’ As part of the group’s awareness-raising, an open meeting is being held tomorrow so people can find out more.
Steering group member Maggie Tidball said: “As a group we are working quietly on many issues brought about by the threat of climate change, economic downturn and the necessity of lessening our use of fossil fuels.
“As individuals we are keen to engage in dialogue with the community about this time of great changes. It can be seen as a time of gloom and doom but if we support one another, we can make it an exciting journey as we travel towards ‘less rather than more.’”
There will be a screening of David Attenborough’s film The Truth About Climate Change on Wednesday, May 6, in the Pavilion Ocean Room.
