A PORTLAND carpenter is organising a special charity banger race in aid of Dorset County Hospital’s children’s ward after the ‘fantastic treatment’ his daughter received.
Nig Lewis, 39, said: “The treatment my four-year-old daughter Willow received when she was admitted to the Dorchester hospital last month was really brilliant and the staff were just fantastic – now I just want to give something back.”
The family fun day, Smash For Cash, will take place on Saturday, May 16, at Matchams Leisure Park, near Ringwood.
The event will be run by Trojan International and all drivers will need to abide by usual banger-racing rules.
Banger racing driver Nig has been competing for 10 years and hopes to make thousand of pounds on the day.
The evening will feature 15-20 races with a big grand final.
Entry on the gates will be £12 for adults, £8 for children or a family ticket, which includes two adults and up to three children, can be purchased.
The drivers’ signing-on fees will be donated to the hospital and £2 from every ticket.
Gates open at 4pm and the races start at 6pm.
