ANGRY residents feel they are ‘banging their heads against a brick wall’ in their attempts to stop a parking scheme.
Dorset County Council is looking to implement the scheme in parts of Victoria Park in Dorchester, but people on Louise Road are objecting.
The council is consulting residents but Andrew Jones, 47, feels they will be losing out if it goes ahead.
He said: “I just feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall and want to kick up a stink to see if anybody is with me.
“We seem to be getting penalised for something that we don’t want.
“The whole scheme appalls me as it means paying more money on top of council tax for a problem that’s not of our making.
“People park here for the hospital and we are being penalised.”
Mr Jones wrote to the council telling them he was ‘incensed’ and told them he had spoken to neighbours who are also against the scheme.
He wrote: “My in-laws are both in their 70s and have lived here for 44 years.
“Now enjoying their well-earned retirement they thrive on having visitors call on them as often as possible and should not have to pay a fee for every visitor.”
Neighbour Keith Hutchings, 54, who lives on the corner of Louise Road and Alice Road, is also against the scheme. He said residents from roads already in the scheme nearby park in his road.
“I don’t want to pay to park outside my own house and I don’t have a problem with parking,” he added.
“If there’s not a place you just move down the road a bit.
“I think the scheme will just move the problem on to different roads.”
Tony Mackle, Dorset County Council’s section manager for traffic management, said: “The county council has advertised the proposed residents’ parking scheme in Victoria Park and a number of objections have been received which will go before the council’s roads and rights of way committee.
“The proposed scheme stops at the junction with Alice Road.
“We have canvassed the opinion of residents on Louise Road and there was a general mandate in favour of the scheme.”
