A SINGING duo from Dorset are set to support a charity football match after offering to be the half-time entertainment.

Richard Kenney, of Weymouth, made the offer to the organisers of Dorset County Hospital’s forthcoming ‘porters vs consultants’ match after learning it was in memory of Dr Giles Molyneux.

Just months before his tragic death in a road collision near Dorchester, Dr Molyneux had treated Mr Kenney’s father-in-law, David Vevers, for a heart attack.

Mr Kenney has now offered to show his continued gratitude to Dr Molyneux by performing at the footie match set up in his memory.

The play-off between hospital staff is being held in support of the Medics Away Foundation, a charity established by Dr Molyneux to provide medical support overseas.

Both Dr Molyneux’s father, Graham Proctor, who helps run the Medics Away Foundation, and charity match organisers at the hospital said they are keen to accept Mr Kenney’s offer and will meet him soon to discuss details.

Mr Kenney, a hospitality assistant who works at Winfrith, has been performing alongside Poole-based Leahn Shaman as part of duo Double Trouble at pub and club gigs in the county for the last eight years.

He said: “It was such a shock when my father-in-law had his heart attack, because he was only 62 and quite fit.

“When we got him to hospital all the staff were fantastic, especially Dr Giles.

“After hearing about that tragic accident we realised it was the same doctor and that was my impetus to contact the match organisers.

“I thought I would be able to do this as a way of paying back all that he did for my father-in-law.

“Dr Giles was one of the first people who attended to him and he was brilliant.”

The sentiment was echoed by Mr Vevers, 62, who works at the Army tank workshop in Bovington. Mr Vevers suffered a heart attack and was treated last March by Dr Giles, who died in June.

Mr Vevers said: “All the staff at the hospital were fantastic, especially Dr Giles.

“I don’t remember it, but I know he was the first person who treated me and that he was very calming and caring towards my family.

“I’m fully in support of what Richard’s doing as a way of saying ‘thank you.’”

Match organiser Juliet Morey at Dorset County Hospital said she was delighted to accept Double Trouble’s offer to perform after having confirmed it with other organisers.

The match is taking place at Dorchester’s Jewson Stadium on May 9.

Tickets are £3 each for adults or £7 for a family and are available from Dorset County Hospital’s League of Friends shop, the porters’ lodge or on match day at the gate.
