Cerne Abbas

  • TIM Laycock and the New Scorpion Band will be visiting the village hall on Saturday, May 9.

“John Barleycorn is Dead” is the title of a seasonal evocation of country life and the land, with poetry, prose and music.

This fantastic evening will include readings from Richard Jeffries, William Barnes, Thomas Hardy and many more.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy these versatile musicians, tickets cost £ 12.

Doors will open at 7:30pm for an 8pm start.

Tickets are available from the Thomas Hardy Society (01305 251501) and Cerne Abbas Stores.

Thomas Hardy members pay £ 10 (to include a glass of wine).

  • BELLRINGERS: A team from Bere Regis will be visiting St. Mary’s Church on Wednesday, April 29.

The ringing will take place from 7pm to 8pm.

  • HENRY Dallal – Pageantry and Performance – this evening was sold out despite having to be rescheduled!

Many thanks go to everyone who helped, from selling raffle tickets to washing up.

George Mortimer must be mentioned in particular for managing all the high-tech equipment including the huge screen for the evening.

Henry will come back to Cerne Abbas in December for another show on the Indian Cavalry and Oman.

  • HISTORICAL Society: The next meeting will feature a talk from Jean Harper entitled “Gloving in and around Yeovil”.

Jean is the curator of the glove collection at Yeovil Museum and realised that a way of life could be lost unless it was carefully investigated and preserved.

Cerne also has a gloving heritage – one of the many pubs, on the site of the original factory, on the way to Up Cerne was called The Glove Inn.

Come and join the society’s members for this interesting and unusual talk on Thursday, April 30.

The talk starts at 7:30pm, non-members are usually asked for a small contribution at the door.
