WEYMOUTH Football Club director Paul Cocks says there has been a positive response from fans after the club relaunched its sale share on Monday.

Mr Cocks said the club had not received a huge amount of cash as yet, but a large number of fans had picked up forms and shown interest in claiming a stake in the club.

The Terras initially launched the sale of 1 million 50 pence shares in January and have so far received more than £40,000 from loyal supporters.

Former Olympic sprinter and Weymouth player Darren Campbell helped renew the appeal at Easter Monday’s home game against Forest Green Rovers, which also saw the Terras pick up their first point in 12 games in their relegation survival bid.

Mr Cocks said: “There has been a lot of enquiries. We haven’t got much cash but a lot of people have collected forms.

“There have been no big amounts pledged, apart from the directors, but we want as many people as possible to own shares.

“A lot of this club’s problems in the past have been because the shares have been in one set of hands.”

Mr Cocks said that the shares, which were handed back to the club by former chairman Malcolm Curtis, would remain on offer for the foreseeable future and the fans will be able to pick up forms at Saturday’s home game against Ebbsfleet United.

He said: “It’s an encouraging start. There is no time limit on it and the shares will remain available until they are all sold, which I doubt will ever happen because there are still around £400,000 worth on offer.”
