CENTENARIAN Norrie Woodhall has presented another £1,000 from the sale of her autobiography to charity.

The generous pensioner, who turned 103 last December, is the last remaining member of the original Hardy Players acting group.

Norrie met Thomas Hardy in 1924, while the original Hardy Players were staging Tess at the Corn Exchange in Dorchester.

He cast her as Liza Lu, and even added extra lines to give her a more substantial role in the play.

The book Norrie’s Tale . . . An Autobiography Of The Last Of The Hardy Players was published in September, 2006.

Its sale proceeds have just reached £3,000 and all have been donated to the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust charity, which provides care for people in Dorset with life-limiting illnesses.

Norrie presented the latest cheque to a Weldmar representative at Max Gate – Thomas Hardy’s home in Dorchester.

Caroline Nickinson, director of fundraising for the Weldmar Hospicecare Trust, said: “This is the third such cheque from a wonderful lady who is in her 104th year.”

Copies of the book are still available at Max Gate and the Dorset County Museum in High West Street and cost £6.95.
