British Red Cross volunteers are dedicated to helping people in crisis, both at home and overseas.

Demands on their services are growing as the recession hits hard the most vulnerable members of communities right across the UK.

From providing support to those caught up in large-scale emergencies to offering a helping hand to someone recently home from hospital, the Red Cross is needed now more than ever.

On behalf of the Red Cross in Dorset, I am appealing for your support of Red Cross Appeal Week and the local services they provide.

Please give just two hours of your time and collect between 3 - 9 May, or fundraise with friends in other ways. If you can’t spare the time, please try to make a donation online or when you see Red Cross collectors in your area.

For fundraising ideas and to get involved, please visit redcross.org.uk/appealweek or call 0844 412 2728.

I have seen first hand the remarkable work of the Red Cross both in this country and overseas and the support they offer to vulnerable people in a crisis.

I do hope that you are able to help this unique organisation continue to be there for those who need it most. Thank you.

Michael Buerk, British Red Cross supporter
