SCHOOL was out for a street party to celebrate an outstanding Ofsted report.
The playground at St Mary’s First School, Charminster, was transformed into a street party setting, complete with bunting and festive food.
Headteacher Ian Donnelly said he was delighted with the school’s latest Ofsted report that classed St Mary’s as outstanding.
Inspectors who visited the school at the beginning of March found pupils’ achievement and personal development to be excellent and the school had exemplary leadership that has brought about improvements since the previous inspection in 2006. They particularly commended Mr Donnelly, describing his leadership as outstanding, and praised the governing body as extremely well-organised and informed.
Inspectors also noted that Year 4 standards were above average last year and were on target to reach even higher standards this year. One reason is the progress made in maths, which follows improvements already achieved in reading and writing.
Mr Donnelly said: “We’re all very pleased with this report.
“It’s a testament to the quality of the excellent staff we have and to the children and governors and the parents.”
The school has nearly 200 children aged four to nine on roll.
