Abbotsbury
- CHESIL Bank Pre School does it again. Based in Abbotsbury the school is an important facility for our villages.
After the success of last year’s sponsored walk, this year 16 parents, staff and friends decided to walk from Portesham to West Bexington via Hardy’s Monument on Sunday, April 5th. A distance of about 10 miles.
Phillipa Gowans, a young Abbotsbury mother, tells me that the sunshine, light breeze and good visibility made it a good day for walking.
The group finished the walk in just four hours.
Sponsorship money is still being collected but the group are sure of a good amount for the local pre school.
Phillipa would like to pass on a huge thank you to those who walked, sponsored or supported the group.
- THE PRE-SCHOOL May Fayre takes place on Saturday, May 2 in Strangways Hall, Abbotsbury.
From 11am to 3pm there will be a wide range of events bringing fun to the village for all the family.
A bouncy castle, a coconut shy, live music, and stalls aplenty, refreshments, activities for the children tombola and a raffle, all will be on hand for visitors and locals alike.
So do join them and raise funds for the pre-school at the same time.
- SEA ABBOTSBURY – Spirit of the Sea literary competition is being held for residents of the villages.
There are three categories; To write a sea shanty – words only- to be judged by Tim Laycock our Dorset folk singer and composer.
To write a short story of up to 500 words – A smuggler’s tale – for children, and Spirit of the Sea – for students and adults.
Julian Fellowes will judge both stories.
The closing date is Friday, May 8.
Tim Laycock, Gorden LePard, Waterstones and Abbotsbury Tourism are kindly donating the prizes.
Langton Herring
- COMIC RELIEF- Langton Herring lost its head- once again - one evening and, thanks to Judy and Nita had a Wine and Wisdom evening to raise a few pounds for Comic Relief.
They couldn’t have it on the ‘official’ night because they had an Italian Evening. But I’m told that’s another story!
The Wisdom part consisted of 10 diabolical rounds of quizzing, interspersed by copious wine, a delicious two-course meal and a raffle to prise yet more money out of generous pockets.
There was much hilarity, noise, heckling, not a lot of wisdom, but with £230 being raised for the cause.
The finale saw The Langton herring Red Nose Challenge Trophy being presented to the winning ream and the four members walked away with a hand crafted cup each.
Well done everyone. You are real cards in Langton!
