A MUSIC extravaganza of live bands and DJs aims to raise £1,000 for a campaign to fund a community nurse for a year.
The charity gig will be held in Dorchester for the Dorset Echo and Weldmar Hospicecare Trust’s Show Them You Care campaign to raise £60,000 for a specialist community nurse.
All the proceeds will go towards the invaluable service provided by Weldmar, which helps thousands of patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families every year.
Organiser Natalie Joyce is part of The Collective – a music management team that usually holds three separate theme nights of bands, dance and drum and bass. The all-day event will run from 2pm until 2am and encompass all three categories – Retrogression, Electrogression and Sweatrogression – to encourage as many people as possible to attend and support the fundraiser.
Natalie, 28, of Dorchester, said: “We normally run three completely separate nights throughout the year but for this, because we wanted to maximise on attendance, we’re doing an all-day event.
“We want to attract all three sets of customers.
“It will cost £3 on the door and all the money will go to the campaign.”
Five bands and four DJs will be showcasing their talent inside The Borough Arms, Dorchester in aid of the Weldmar nurse appeal and an additional five acoustic musicians will entertain people in the garden.
Natalie said: “There’s four of us organising it and two of us have had grandparents pass away at the Weldmar.
“That inspired us initially and we also wanted to do a charity gig so we chose to support the Show Them You Care campaign.”
“Everything is running at zero overheads and we’re also doing as much online promotion as we can.”
The charity gig is taking place on Saturday July 18 and tickets are now on sale at The Borough Arms.
