WEYMOUTH Football Club chairman Ian Ridley today called for a renewed effort from fans to help secure the team’s future on and off the field.

The club is re-launching its share sale at Easter Monday’s home match against Forest Green Rovers and is hoping for a bumper turnout.

Terras fans have endured a difficult season with the club steeped in turmoil off the field while the team is hovering above the Blue Square Premier relegation zone.

Fans are now being urged to rally round for one final push with a strong show of support at the game and are also being asked to dig deep in exchange for a financial stake in their beloved club.

Mr Ridley paid tribute to the efforts of fans so far, which have helped keep the club afloat – but with 900,000 shares still on offer at 50 pence each he is calling on them to redouble their efforts.

He said: “We have done well this far to keep going when the club was staring at administration but we remain in a parlous position. There is no point in hiding it. It is common knowledge that we are £500,000 in debt but the real problem is managing the cash flow and meeting our financial obligations in the short term to avoid the club being closed down as we seek to structure our repayments to those we owe.

“Directors have put money in that has kept the wolf from the door but we can’t keep doing that and everyone agrees that the club has to stand on its own two feet.

“Over the next month, we are looking to get as much money into the club as we can and a huge part of that is the new share sale.”

Tickets for the Forest Green game have been reduced to £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
