Coincidentally, I read about Chief Superintendent Martin Hiles's enthusiastic pledges regarding road dangers on the same day that I learned another fact about the police system.
I would be interested to discover if there are other people like me, who were under the misunderstanding that the police attended road traffic accidents.
Apparently this is only the case if there is an injury to anyone involved and in addition, the occupants of the vehicles involved, are responsible for clearing up any debris (and I assume controlling the traffic whilst carrying out this task?) caused by the accident.
If this is true, then may I also assume that all drivers who take to the road following ‘one too many’ will not suffer any legal consequences if they cause an accident, unless some unfortunate person is injured as a result as there will be no-one there to breathalise them?
